Dr. Chin is board certified in orthopedic surgery and orthopedic sports medicine and specializes in arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder, hip, and knee, complex shoulder reconstruction, and sports medicine. He has extensive experience in minimally invasive joint preservation techniques for the hip, knee, and shoulder, cartilage restoration procedures, shoulder replacements, and robotic-assisted knee replacements. Dr. Chin is passionate about providing excellent, patient-centered care and he seeks to provide patients with the information necessary to make informed decisions. Patients appreciate his friendly, open, and individualized approach.

Dr. Chin is a native Texan and former collegiate tennis player. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Colorado State University in Pueblo where he was a Presidential Scholar and NCAA Academic All-American. Dr. Chin went on to complete a Ph.D. in Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of Texas at Dallas where his published research resulted in multiple awards and a coveted grant from the National Institute of Health. He continued his education by completing medical school and orthopedic surgery training at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas. During residency, he received multiple research grants, a distinguished teaching award, and had the privilege to provide care for the Dallas Stars Hockey team, Grand Prairie AirHogs professional baseball team, Southern Methodist University athletes, and multiple Dallas area high school football teams.

Following residency, Dr. Chin was selected for the prestigious San Diego Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine Fellowship and trained with pioneers and innovators of knee, shoulder and hip arthroscopy, knee ligament reconstruction, complex shoulder replacements, cartilage restoration, osteochondral allograft transplantation, and elbow reconstruction including the Tommy John procedure. Dr. Chin had the distinction of treating athletes from the San Diego Padres, San Diego State University athletic teams, and other San Diego collegiate and high school athletes.

During his training, Dr. Chin developed a special interest in hip preservation surgery and techniques. He obtained additional training with several pioneers in hip preservation and hip arthroscopy including Dr. Thomas Byrd in Nashville, Dr. Hal Martin in Dallas, Dr. Robert Scheinberg in Dallas, and Dr. Brian White in Denver, and he continues research in this new and exciting field of orthopedics.

Dr. Chin is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, a Fellow of the Arthroscopy Association of North America, as well as a member of the ISHA - The Hip Preservation Society, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and the Texas Orthopaedic Association. He also is an active manuscript reviewer for the the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery (JBJS), American Journal of Sports Medicine (AJSM), Orthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine (OJSM), and Arthroscopy: The Journal of Arthroscopic and Related Research.

Furthermore, Dr Chin demonstrates dedication to educating future medical professionals by regularly welcoming students from medical schools, universities, and high schools for preceptorships.

Dr. Chin, his wife, and two children enjoy spending time outdoors, traveling, and all sports, particularly tennis, golf, and soccer.
