Rohan A. Gheewala, MD
Dr. Gheewala is an orthopaedic surgeon with fellowship training in adult reconstruction (hip and knee replacement surgery). He specializes in Primary and Revision Hip and Knee Replacement, Trauma. He is devoted to and passionate about performing the highest quality surgery and forging equally high-quality relationships with each of his patients.
He is originally from Long Island, NY and graduated cum laude from SUNY Binghamton (Binghamton University). He proceeded to earn his MD from SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY. Continuing his educational tour of upstate New York, he proceeded to complete his orthopaedic surgery residency at Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY. At Albany Med, he trained at and was immersed in the highest volume Level 1 trauma center in New York State. Here, he received extensive training in fracture care and management and was coached by mentors who ingrained in him the value of uncompromising surgical care.
After residency, Dr. Gheewala completed an adult reconstruction fellowship at the Baylor College of Medicine in the heart of Houston’s Texas Medical Center, under the tutelage of Dr. Melvyn A. Harrington. Here, he became facile with complex primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty. During this time, he was exposed to and gained a great interest in calipered, kinematically aligned total knee arthroplasty and total hip arthroplasty through a direct anterior approach, without a traction table. During fellowship, he participated in a surgical mission trip with Faith in Practice to Antigua Guatemala.
Dr. Gheewala is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Academy of Hip and Knee Surgeons. He has had several papers published in prominent peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma, Journal of Arthroplasty and Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research.
He is proud to be from a family of multiple physicians. His father, a plastic surgeon, instilled in him his practice’s core value of unwavering dedication to patient and craft. He is married to his wife, Nicole, who is also a physician. He is a die-hard car enthusiast and has a particular interest in 1990s-current day German and Japanese performance cars.
